How the world reacted to England’s jaw-dropping last-gasp win over Australia
A first-innings score of 99 hadn’t looked like being enough for England, particularly when Australia recovered from the loss of two early wickets to reach 48/3 at the midway point of the chase.
But seven wickets fell for just 48 more runs as Australia were denied at the death.
A topsy-turvy match had swung back in England’s favour with a run of three wickets in seven balls through the middle overs, only for the Aussies to recover and move within touching distance of the target.
Only four runs were required to send them through to the World Cup final, with 15 balls remaining, before Milly Illingworth was brilliantly run out by Ryana MacDonald-Gay.
And, after seven consecutive dot balls had seen the tension ratcheted up to near-unbearable levels, England captain Grace Scrivens snaffled the final wicket to seal a last-gasp win.
Here’s how the world reacted to the stunning finish in Potchefstroom:

Congratulations to India and England the first ever finalists in the Womens U19 WC ! #U19T20WorldCup
The way this team believed every ball of their bowling innings that they could do it - amazing. You could hear the belief and the unity in Grace Scrivens' chat in the huddle before they ran out. Nerve-shredding stuff, players and staff can all be so, so proud. What an effort. https://t.co/5CT1gi96Uv— Hen Cowen (@HMLCowen) January 27, 2023
